Beauty

  What is beauty? Is it something that is set in stone? I don’t think so. Beauty is just a person’s perception. Have you ever heard the saying beauty is in the eye of the beholder? Well, that is totally true! A lot of time’s something you find wonderful others may not and vice versa. The same is true for people.

I am 15 years old and I have the same problem that many other teenagers, typically girls, have. We look at ourselves in the mirror and only see our flaws. We focus on what we don’t like, on what we want to change. “I have to many zits.” “I’m too fat.” I wish I was as pretty as her.” We are our biggest critics but I have a challenge for you. If you are willing to accept then read on.

First, I want to tell you that whoever you are you are absolutely beautiful. I don’t have to know you or what you look like to accept that as a fact. I don’t have to because God says you are.

  There are many videos circling around about the ideal beauty and body types throughout the ages. Those videos, two in particular, inspired me to write this blog. So, before I continue telling you how gorgeous you are watch these;

  Did you notice how often the ideals changed throughout time and regions? At one point in time in Ancient Greece uni-brows were popular. Can you believe that women actually wanted them? They would seriously take animal hair and glue it to their faces if they didn’t already have one. I have just one word: ew, but who am I to judge? That is what people found beautiful. Just because I don’t doesn’t mean it isn’t pretty. That is just my perception and perception is different for everyone.

The other video, about the body types, chances are you are similar to one of them. Each body type was the “desirable” body of that time and era. They were all different. Each one had different portions. Guess what? Each one is still beautiful.

  There may be people around you that say you are not good enough or pretty enough but they are totally wrong. I know with this media filled world telling us how we should look or dress or be that it can be hard to view yourself as beautiful. Even if they are not directly telling us we need to look a certain way it can still be hard looking at the beautiful models in magazines and the pretty people around us. We can’t help but want to look like they do. Don’t ever forget that they are just one version of “beautiful” out of many.

Remember also that the way you look on the outside is nothing compared to the amazing and unique person that you are on the inside. Well, not the inside necessarily, but the person that you are. The person that shines and radiates outward and pours out onto the people around you. Don’t keep the wonderful you caged on the inside. Don’t be afraid to let it out and let others get to know the real you! The you that our Lord made.

So, back to that challenge I was talking about. Today when you look in the mirror instead of focusing on the things you don’t like about yourself focus on the things you do. I know this girl that said that she didn’t find anything beautiful about herself. I told her to find at least on thing and each day focus on that. I said that before she knew it more and more things would pop up. What you tell yourself everyday really does affect you. If you lie to yourself enough your brain will eventually believe it to be true. So even if you don’t yet believe it tell yourself, “I am smart.” “I am beautiful.” I am worth it.”
Someday before you know it you will believe it.

  Never forget how beautiful you are because God made you and I don’t think He would appreciate you dissing His masterpiece. 😉 Now listen to this amazing and encouraging song by Jamie Grace.
